A study gives a community an ordered activity over selected terms. Follow the study instructions for its purpose, definitions to consider, and closing questions.

The study page

Open the study link and sign in with your usual account. Existing community members can select Begin study or Continue study and can find the activity under Your studies on their profile.

ID4 round two permits anyone with the link to join while the study is open. Select Join and begin study to join ID4 and enter the activity. Other studies may require an invitation or membership added by a steward. Contact the person who shared the link if access is required and no join button appears. See Communities and scope.

The public overview gives the instructions, terms, and closing date. About this study returns to that overview. The terms opens the collection. Continue study resumes at the first unfinished step.

Terms used in the study

A Position records your choice. Canonical order follows vote scores and tie-breaks, which may change as people contribute. A support score is not a count of study positions.

Suggest a revision creates a separate definition with its own history. An edit by the primary author creates a revision of the existing definition.

The study activity

ID4 round two has instructions, one Position step for each of eight terms, and closing questions. You can accept, revise, propose, comment, or skip during the Position steps. There is no repeated Review round.

Other studies may have a separate Review round for votes and comments. The progress indicators show completed steps and your first unfinished step. Later unfinished steps remain locked. A dash identifies a skipped term. Completed steps can be reopened for reading.

The Position step

Choose the definition closest to what you consider correct. You may choose your own definition regardless of its score. Propose a first definition or skip when none is available.

The earliest model-authored definition appears first when one exists. Other candidates follow by support score, with older definitions first in a tie. This presentation differs from canonical order on a vocabulary page. Use the wording, attribution, and discussion to assess a candidate.

Accept a definition

Accept this definition records the exact revision as your Position and completes the step. It adds an upvote, changes your downvote to an upvote, or retains your existing upvote without adding another point. An upvote cast outside the study does not complete this choice.

Suggest a revision

Select Revise this definition, explain what should change, and request a language-model draft. Review and edit the result. Publish revision creates a separate candidate credited to you and the model, records your Position, and completes the step. The original remains available. Publication does not cast a vote.

Discard draft publishes nothing. Before a draft exists, you can accept the source or return to the definitions. Use Propose a new definition to write your own alternative if model drafting is unavailable.

ID4 round two advances to the next unfinished step after publication. Post any public comments before completing the Position. Studies with a Review round allow further votes and comments there.

Propose a new definition

Select Propose a new definition to write an independent candidate for the term. You may include an example of use. Publish new definition records your Position and completes the step without casting a vote.

The proposal has no replacement target. Propose a replacement on an ordinary definition page is a separate action for superseding another candidate.

Comment on a definition

ID4 round two has a comment box beneath each definition. Select Post comment before accepting or publishing a Position. The comment saves your text without requesting a model draft or completing the step. You can still accept, revise, or propose afterward.

Studies with a separate Review round provide comment boxes there. The thread may also include discussion from outside the study.

Skip a term

Select Skip this term and confirm if you do not know the term well enough to choose. Skip before recording a Position or posting study comments. The skip records no definition, vote, or comment and is final within the walkthrough. It also skips the paired Review step when one exists. Skipped steps remain available for reading.

Reviewing the definitions

This round appears only in studies that include Review. Use the upvote, downvote, and comment controls, including when only one definition is present. You may vote on your own definition. Continue when there are no definitions.

Each account has one vote per revision. Select the same arrow again to withdraw your vote, or the other arrow to change it. An upvote already recorded by Accept is withdrawn if you press up again. A proposal published in Position has no automatic vote.

Cards begin in canonical order and stay in place while you vote. Review leaves your earlier Position unchanged. Scores and threads may include contributions from outside the study.

Votes and comments save when submitted. Select Done with this term to complete Review. A vote on every candidate is not required by the interface. Follow the study instructions. Completed Review steps are read-only.

The closing questions

Answer the question shown and select Submit. Scale questions accept a value from 1 to 5 with the displayed endpoint meanings. Text questions accept a written response. Saved answers can be reread but not edited in the walkthrough. A study may use its own questions or omit them.

Use Feedback to report a site problem.

Saving and returning

Positions, skips, published definitions, votes, comments, and submitted answers are saved. Return through the study link or Your studies, then select Continue study.

Unsubmitted form text is a draft. Study help keeps it on screen, but navigation or a reload can lose it. In a Review round, saved votes or comments still require Done with this term to complete the step.

Review completed study opens your consolidated record of choices, skips, study votes and comments, and closing answers. Later vocabulary edits or votes can change wording and scores without changing your recorded choice.

Earlier ID4 positions, skips, and answers still count after removal of the repeated Review round. Its previous Review activity remains under Your earlier responses in the completed record.

The study stops accepting actions at closing time. Saved contributions remain in the vocabulary and its provenance.

Study and vocabulary workflows

Use the activity to record study participation. Ordinary vocabulary pages use the same definitions and revisions but do not complete study steps.

Studies with a Review round allow additional votes and comments after Position. Study contributions retain their step context.

A permanent definition number identifies a candidate, regardless of screen order. Use a revision link to cite exact text.

When a study closes

Check the closing date on the study page. After that time, the activity refuses new actions. Vocabulary work can continue outside the study and is not counted retrospectively as study participation.

Study administration

A steward or administrator prepares the collection, instructions, steps, questions, and participation window. Candidate exclusions affect one study and preserve vocabulary content and earlier responses. See Administration and stewardship.
