Canonical definition
The energy needed to pass over an energy barrier of some sort, often for atomic movement or a chemical reaction.
A lower activation energy for lithium migration means lithium can travel more easily, making for a better battery electrolyte.
The minimum energy required for a chemical reaction to proceed from reactants to products.
Heating a reacting mixture can increase the fraction of molecules able to cross an activation-energy barrier. Heating does not itself lower the barrier for the same reaction pathway.
It is the the minimum amount of energy required for a particular reaction to proceed
Energy of transition states, organic synthesis, kinetics
